All Submitted to Him

Ephesians 1:15-23

…that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Just how almighty and supreme is the LORD? How you view God likely will shape how you live out your life.

Paul desires to give thanks for the Ephesians that they are living complete in the LORD and that their lives are submitted to the LORD and not to the whims of this world. He knew they believed in Jesus but wanted them to have the fullness that was possible in the LORD.

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints… 1

So much potential for those who would live in the LORD, to fully identify with God and live in all He is able to provide. He reminds us that the same enabling that was demonstrated through Jesus is available to those ‘in’ Christ

…and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 2

While Paul is encouraging the disciples at Ephesus to live up to what is possible in Jesus, he goes on to emphasize just how complete the supremacy of the LORD is—not only over ALL that was created out of this world but ALL things in this created realm. ALL things, no exclusions, exceptions, ALL. And then Jesus becomes Head over those who would be filled with Him, His Body, the living Church of all in faith in Him!

And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. 3

God’s intention is not that the Church get by until it meets in Heaven but that it is victorious in His purposes in this world as well as the next. Rule, authority, dominion are all present enablements for the Body of Christ when in agreement with Him and exercised for His Glory alone. He is sufficient if we are submitted to Him as LORD of ALL.
