Divine Selectivity

Inclusivity is a buzzword of the second decade in the Twenty-first Century. Everyone gets to expect to be included in everything except what they don’t want. Laws have been passed, courts have ruled, social media has declared yet the ultimate Authority has not changed His mind.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” ¹ 

While Jesus was not willing that any should perish, He was also specific about the path to the LORD. He even taught a parable about it:

And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’ ²

If you believe in Jesus and that He is God as well as man, you face a real difficulty finding wiggle room in His teachings on singularity. While He wants all to be saved, in full relationship with God, He is adamant that there is only one way and that He is it. According to Him, there are not multiple ways, the ability to create your own way to God that suits your sensibilities but you are limited to only Jesus. While their could be other interesting philosophies, He denies the effectiveness of all of them for making the Way to your desired destination if it is with the true LORD.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.³ 

Repentance—changing your mind, commitment and life-path—is mandatory and it can only be effected in Jesus.
