Openness with God

Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Is there anything in your life that is too difficult for the LORD? Do you have any secrets you don’t want God to know about because you sense He may not be happy with you? Maybe it is time to rethink your concept of the LORD.

One of the questions that is deemed unanswerable is, “Can God create a rock too big for God to move?” This presumes God would have a reason to be involved in nonsense but He has revealed Himself to be both wise and understanding beyond the constructs of man. The LORD can and will do anything He deems appropriate, agreeable and timely with His desires to fulfill His purposes for mankind. In that context Paul writes,

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 1

God welcomes you to express yourself to Him, to not need to hold onto your anxieties about life without including His presence with you. You are even invited to let God know your requests. Yes, there is that element of ‘reasonableness’ in what you ask and how you recognize God’s response. We must remember our perspective of what we see and feel we are experiencing is not the same as from the LORD’s viewpoint. God has a greater and eternal perspective of this moment that is so urgent to us and how we do not understand the outcome of this moment in the scope of eternity.

Then Paul encourages us to leave the resolution of our requests to the LORD and rest in the peace that He knows what He is doing even if you don’t understand. We are to bring the requests and then trust the LORD for His resolution:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 2
