Would you like to have a code to live by, something direct that deals with all contingencies that you might face? The U.S. Code Annotated is currently 378 volumes and only applies to laws in the United States. The Code itself is 54 titles and approximately 75,000 pages. The most frequently broken laws in the United States are speeding violations and rolling stops. We probably will excuse ourselves from living toward that level of law but what about the righteousness of God?
The first chapter of Paul’s letter to the Romans makes several strong statements relative to Right. Paul says of himself,
When Paul speaks of the Gospel, he is referring to ‘the good message’ which is all that the Bible contains about attaining relationship with the LORD. Paul says that he is not reluctant to embrace all that Jesus has said for it is the enabling of God for each person’s salvation if they believe. It makes no difference who you are but that God has given His Word to all and if they believe with commitment unto change, they can be right with God living by that faith in His Word’s sufficiency. The question isn’t, “Is God righteous” but how can we become righteous? Paul will repeatedly speak to our inability to make ourselves right with God, how in fact we do just the opposite in trying to create our own means to righteousness. Here, in the opening of his masterpiece of understanding rightness with God, where we are unright and He is Right, he makes it clear that it is only by faith that we can live in accord with the righteous God.
Truth is empowered by the LORD, the Gospel is Truth, the power of the Gospel if believed with a living faith has ‘in it the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith for, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
